Mail authentication and app access
How BOLD Mail handles SPF, DKIM and DMARC, where BIMI stands, and which mail clients you can use.
The records behind your own address
- SPF
- The setup authorises Amazon SES. Merge this into your existing SPF record when you use other senders; do not publish a second SPF record at the same name.
- DKIM
- Verify the domain in BOLD Send first. Its domain setup provides the actual DKIM CNAME records issued for your domain.
- DMARC
- Setup supplies a starter monitoring policy (p=none), and can preserve an existing policy you provide. Monitoring is not a quarantine or reject policy.
- BIMI
- BOLD Mail does not provision BIMI records or logo certificates. No inbox logo display is promised by connecting a domain.
- Receiving mail
- The Mail setup provides the MX destination and checks your DNS. Confirm both receiving and sending readiness before moving everyday mail.
Where you can read and send mail
Use BOLD Mail in the browser. IMAP, POP, SMTP and ActiveSync client access are not offered, so Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and native phone mail apps cannot connect to a BOLD Mail mailbox today.
IMAP import is different: it copies old folders and messages from a supported provider into BOLD Mail. It does not create an IMAP server you can connect to. Providers must allow app-password sign-in; Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com are not supported by that importer.
